About us

After we met a few years ago, a consensus (is it consensus when there are two …?) emerged to move somewhere beautiful, with excellent on and off road cycling, fabulous walking and ‘dark skies’ for stargazing/astronomy.
We needed to find somewhere we could also run a small, friendly, ‘informal’ bed and breakfast. We had some thoughts about where this might be and Swaledale was the leader of the pack. We wanted to be rural, but not too off the beaten track. We both knew the area a bit, liked Reeth very much and had already frequented the excellent Dales Bike Centre in Fremington a number of times.

In Spring 2015 we did it! We still blink in surprise as we look out at the stunning views from our front windows. Are we really here?!

So, yes, here we are: both keen cyclists (although one of us is ‘leisure’ rather than ‘Strava-ready’!); daily walkers (well, we do have a border collie) and Paul is an extremely keen amateur astronomer. We can provide information about on and off road cycling if you don’t know the area well. We have locked bike storage and a hose for cleaning your steed.

Some other things…
We can’t claim to have the lowest carbon footprint at present due to the nature of the property, however we use household products that have as low an impact as possible and we try to use local and/or fairtrade produce whenever we can. I don’t really ‘do ironing’ so sheets and towels do not get ironed (why would you…?) and towels aren’t changed for stays of less than 4 nights – unless you really need them to be. It all helps a bit.
We have a border collie, Tess, so if you have a pet allergy our home is unlikely to be suitable for you. If you don’t like dogs in particular, we’re probably not the place you’re looking for.

There will usually be cake on arrival for you to have with tea or coffee in your room and each afternoon of your stay with us. If you fancy additional ‘cakeage’, we will leave an ‘honesty’ pot. Vegan cake no problem with a bit of notice.
We can provide a simple packed lunch (again vegetarian/vegan possible) if asked the night before.

Thank you for reading this far!  Kind regards, Delyth & Paul.
